List of NATO reporting names for fighter aircraft

Reason: An user by the IP of 122.54.107.69 has continuously been adding fictional aircraft which disrupts the accuracy of the article and even after I made a warning the user has still been adding fictional aircraft to a list for real planes. Thehistorianisaac (talk) 16:07, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

Crimean Tatars

Reason: Persistent IP vandalism. [5] [6] [7] [8]

IP user is citing a news page about the Crimean Tatar invasion of New England (one English city established in Crimea) as a source for the English origin of Crimean Tatars. Website holds no credibility [9], and it does not mention anything about English origin of Crimean Tatars rather, it is only about invasion and history of the city. I attempted to engage with the user on the talk page. [10].

Once again, the IP user has provided two sources that make no mention of the English origin of Crimean Tatars. This time, the words "English" or "Anglo-Saxon" don't even appear. I am fully convinced this is not a good faith edit and he is trying to mislead the readers for personal reasons. I believe this user won't stop using fake citations to prove his agenda. Auzandil (talk) 18:07, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. Sorry, but as I note in a request/s above a few minutes ago, we don't usually protect on account of just one user; usually there needs to be several to qualify for protection. Thank you. We have people adding that he's dead... I can't find sources for that yet..... but it is anticipated ....News from this afternoon Moxy🍁 22:18, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
@Moxy: That's an IP address editor, not an extended confirmed user. We generally don't protect pages with ECP unless there is significant disruption from autoconfirmed users. This is discussed more at WP:PREEMPTIVE and WP:ECP. (Technically speaking, BLPs can be extended confirmed protected under WP:CT/BLP, but this page isn't anywhere near the point where that makes sense.) If there's significant disruption from autoconfirmed users, please feel free to submit a request for ECP. Thanks. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 22:37, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: A redirect which was protected over a decade ago. Is the protection still necessary for the time being?102.156.71.151 (talk) 21:08, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

Comment:: The redirect isn't protected. The target, however, is protected. The last time it was unprotected, it received no edits that weren't vandalism or reversion of vandalism before protection was reinstated. The time before that, it was hit 5 times in two days. Why give them the chance? - Sumanuil. (talk to me) 21:42, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
I am requesting a protection removal from the redirect only. I am not requesting an unprotection from the target page. I know what I am requesting. To be clear, I have visited the editing source of this redirect (not target) and noticed that it is limited for autoconfirmed users. Strangely enough, there isn't a clue in the protection log, except that its protection settings got moved from the target article.102.156.71.151 (talk) 21:56, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Israel–Hamas war

Change "Since the start of the Israeli operation, more than 35,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed,[86] including over 15,000 children and 10,000 women.[87][88]" to "Since the start of the Israeli operation, nearly 35,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed,[86] including over 7,000 children and nearly 5,000 women.[87][88]." This is based on the data recently revised by the UN, accessible here: https://www.ochaopt.org/content/hostilities-gaza-strip-and-israel-reported-impact-day-215. ConDissenter (talk) 21:21, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

Is there another place to request this change? The talk page for Israel-Hamas war is restricted as well. The current source for casualty data is palinfo.com, which describes itself by saying it "does not lay any claim to neutrality for it blatantly sides with the oppressed Palestinian people." https://english.palinfo.com/about-us/. Recognizing that reliable sources do not need to have a neutral POV, why should we use this as a source rather than a less biased source like the United Nations? ConDissenter (talk) 18:28, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
@ConDissenter Please go check Talk:Israel–Hamas war for earlier discussions and to see why your request is unlikely to succeed. FYI, the lower numbers refer not to the killed overall but to the killed who have additionally been identified by name. Besides, all the numbers are sourced to Gaza MoH anyway. — kashmīrī TALK 09:45, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply, Kashmiri. I recognize the data is all coming from the same place. (I've tried to access but can't find a reliable site for the Gaza Health Ministry to find the data directly, so I assume the UN is accurately presenting the data.) I agree it hasn't changed the total number killed which is why I didn't suggest a change to that -- beyond fixing the "more than" to "nearly" 35,000. But I don't see any basis for keeping outdated numbers on women and children. The old ratio was 72% and the new ratio was 52%. The talk page suggests we need to wait for more RS, but at this point there are plenty:
https://www.npr.org/2024/05/15/1251265727/un-gaza-death-toll-women-children
https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/13/middleeast/death-toll-gaza-fatalities-un-intl-latam/index.html
https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/gaza-women-children-death-toll-1.7203167
Is there any way to flag this for the editors of that page, even on the Talk page? ConDissenter (talk) 23:40, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

Autopatrolled

User:Prince of Erebor

I have created 80 articles, primarily focused on Sinophone cinema and fantasy literature, with 2 currently undergoing GAN. All of my articles have been promptly reviewed, and none of them have been deleted or marked for maintenance. I am requesting autopatrolled rights to alleviate the workload of the patrollers, especially those who actively review film articles and have reviewed the majority of my articles, allowing them to allocate more time to address articles that truly require attention. As a side note, I am a veteran editor with patroller rights on Chinese Wikipedia, having authored over 200 articles, including a dozen featured and good articles. While I fully understand that there are differences in policies and MOS across different Wikipedias, I believe this demonstrates my credibility and knowledge in assessing article quality.— Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 13:18, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

User:SheriffIsInTown

I frequently create articles on notable subjects, having authored 530 articles, with the majority facing no issues. Only three were deleted, mainly due to changes in election results affecting their notability. I'm requesting autopatroller rights to ease the burden on other editors reviewing my articles and help reduce the backlog of new article reviews. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 23:36, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

Hey, I'm requesting Autopatrolled because I mainly make election maps and correct election maps. For a while now, I have been requesting individual files so I can override them with updated data or shape the maps. I'm very experienced in making maps and always make sure I have correct information. Would I be able to have Autopatrolled? Thank you GatewayPolitics (talk) 21:38, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

also I've created a decent amount of articles GatewayPolitics (talk) 01:04, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
Not done Autopatrolled would not aid with election maps. While you have created 61 articles, many of them such as 2010 Tennessee Senate election and 2008 Tennessee House of Representatives election are not free of issues and require additional attention. - Aoidh (talk) 01:54, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
@Aoidh is there a way that I would be able to override maps without requesting? GatewayPolitics (talk) 03:11, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
If you're referring to uploading a new version of files like in this comment then if they're on Commons then it would be handled through Commons, but either way isn't something Wikipedia:Autopatrolled on the English Wikipedia would help with in any way. - Aoidh (talk) 06:08, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
Oh alright thanks for the help. GatewayPolitics (talk) 13:34, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
Oh, it looks like only Autopatrolled users can do that [11] it's fine though, I'll just request files like I have been. GatewayPolitics (talk) 13:39, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
@GatewayPolitics: Each project has its own permissions, so having autopatrolled on the English Wikipedia would not impact your ability to do anything on Wikimedia Commons and wouldn't allow you to update images there, you would need autopatrolled on Commons instead at Commons:Requests for rights. See for example Special:CentralAuth/GatewayPolitics where you have extendedconfirmed on en.wikipedia.org but not on other projects. - Aoidh (talk) 02:07, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Requests for new page reviewer

New page reviewer

User:Florificapis

I got busy in real life for most of March and April, so my request was put on hold per [12]. Here is my original reason for requesting NPR permissions again.

I have over 120 new articles under my belt, mostly relating to medieval history, monasteries, saints, and geographical features. I am familiar with the kinds of content that would fall under CSD criteria, since I have experience wikifying new pages and tagging obviously problematic new pages for speedy deletion. I know the guidelines on notability, proper sourcing, draftifying new articles, rating talk pages using scripts, AfC, AfD, and other essential patrolling tasks. Would be quite happy to reduce the backlog while being cautious and careful. Also currently a Pending Changes Reviewer. Florificapis (talk) 00:09, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

  • Never had any blocks.
  • Agree to review on a trial basis. InDimensional (talk) 12:25, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

User:TarnishedPath

I participated in the December backlog drive, being granted a trial. At the end of the trial I requested permanent NPP, which was denied with the denying admin expressing concern that I hadn't created any articles. I've since created an article about Neeraj Gupta (refer to User_talk:TarnishedPath/Archive_2#Your_submission_at_Articles_for_creation:_Neeraj_Gupta_(sculptor)_has_been_accepted) and been responsible for the bulk of the material in the newly created article Bruce Lehrmann‎. I had been working on Draft:Bruce Lehrmann‎ but someone else started work on Bruce Lehrmann‎ just as I submitted Draft:Bruce Lehrmann‎ to AfC so I ended up merging my work over to the mainspace article and issuing a CSD for deletion of the draft. I've continued to be semi-regularly involved with AfD. I'm applying because I got a notification a while ago that there was a backlog drive for May and I'm willing to help out a bit with that. User:Trainsskyscrapers

Hello. I was initially given a month long trial as a new page reviewer after receiving an invitation on my user page, and I've been enjoying everything so far: reviewing pages, providing feedback, sending WikiLove to new and returning users who have made exceptional first attempts, tagging issues, and resolving issues myself (that could otherwise be tagged) when I have time in an attempt to reduce the backlog. I have already been renewed once, and my second trial expires in a little over two weeks (May 26th). I'm requesting either an indefinite or longer-term ability to review new pages before my time lapses. Haven't had any behavioral issues, and I try to treat all users with respect. I will continue to help clear the backlog in the meantime. Thanks again. Trainsskyscrapers (talk) 00:06, 8 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello. I had the new page reviewer permission but for some reason it was taken away without any explanation. I would like to apply for it again or at least get the reasoning for the removal of my permission Rahammz (talk) 01:43, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

Basically I would like to have a longer term as a reviewer. If the time had run out Rahammz (talk) 01:46, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi! I was granted a one month trial with the NPP right and feel as though I did a decent job. I mainly focused on marking obviously acceptable articles. I didn't do a ton of reviewing, but I then again I felt like doing more than a handful a day would have been overstepping the constraints of a trial permission. If it is ok with the coordinating admins, I'd like to keep using the NPP right; feel welcome to simply renew the trial period for another month if you need more indication that I'll stick to procedure. ~ Pbritti (talk) 13:29, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

I was suggested to apply here, and I've decided to volunteer. To make this more consistent:
I'm an AFC reviewer and I mostly create articles and review articles relating to biographies, as well as biological or scientific topics. I have DYK, GA, and vast experience with AFD and other noticeboard discussions. I'd like to volunteer in new pages patrolling as well to help reduce the queue. (I most likely won't be reviewing pages daily, but whenever I do, I'd do a thorough review, and I'm very collaborative. I provide feedback and at times amend issues myself of the pages I review).
Note that I've had a name change, so certain stats tool pages might not work properly. And 3 out of 4 of my deleted pages were self delete.

Thanks.

Was hoping to contribute with working on the backlog here. I have rollback and have been working on RCP, but looking to expand my experience a bit. Not much to brag about with new article creation, but there's a limited sample there I stand behind. I'm decently acquainted with the AfD scene, and have been working with new (often problematic) users and editors as best I can from RCP. I was removed from probationary AFC due to inactivity, but I'm planning to be online more in the immediate future. Also have worked with copyvio patrol and have done the oddball GA review. Looking forward to help, and happy to discuss any questions. Thanks! Bgv. (talk) 21:09, 20 May 2024 (UTC)

User:Tajotep

I always wanted to review new pages since I became familiar with Wikipedia and had a good behaviour. I also got motivated to post this request when I was granted to the autopatrolled user right without applying for it (an administrator decided it voluntarily). I'll check specially the last pages on "New Pages", which are at the end of the queue, to improve those articles and helping new users by telling the mistakes they have. Thanks in advance. Requests for page mover

Page mover

User:ToadetteEdit

Reason for requesting page mover rights: multiple reasons including to swap pages (as a result of RM discussions) and suppress redirects, especially R2 eligible. I understood that I won't abuse this privileged right and read the instructions. ToadetteEdit! 15:41, 12 May 2024 (UTC)

Done 3 months. rerequest closer to august. cheers – robertsky (talk) 02:39, 20 May 2024 (UTC)

User:Cremastra

Re-requesting after my one-month trial expired a month ago. I rename pages when it's necessary to make a round-robin swap, draftify new articles, and periodically close RMs. I also sometimes help in renaming categories for CfD. Cremastra (talk) 20:20, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

User:TornadoLGS

I have spent some time patrolling recent edits and have draftified some articles and would like page-mover rights so that I can suppress redirects that would be R2-elegible. Additionally, while not something I have done as much recently, I have spent time editing tropical cyclone articles, which have been targeted over the years by an LTA known for page-move vandalism. User:Lightoil

Hi I am requesting permanent page mover rights. I have been using my rights to help close Requested Moves and WP:RMTR and to the lessor extent draftifying pages. I have been more careful since the last time I requested the rights, doing the required cleanup after moves. I am asking for the renewal early as it took a long time for my rights to be renewed the last time. Thank you for your consideration. Lightoil (talk) 00:56, 20 May 2024 (UTC)

I have been editing for around 2.5 years now, with specialised focus on field of entertainment. I also often correct typos or do general fixes on articles of various subjects. I have a good knowledge of wikipedia policies and would like to get this pending changes reviewer rights to broaden by experience and get more expertise of Wikipedia. I've done reverting vandalism (Although I was on a hiatus since Golden Week as the vandal level hit 5) for some months now, with my edits growing over 2000 from 89ish including other works, and I request this permission to help with the works. I understand that I did make a misunderstandment couple of weeks ago and I have revised the guidelines to prevent another instance of that happening. (I've been making sure not to miss placing a uw as well). Not planning to request rollbacker until I stop making accidents. ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 01:34, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

User:750h+

I have made some very high quality articles (Aston Martin DB9 FA and Aston Martin Rapide at FAC) so I am very familiar with what content is reliable and what is not. I have reverted vandalism (in fact, reverting vandalism was the first edit I made) and whenever i seen vandalism, I take extreme pride in reverting it. Best 750h+ 13:28, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello User:750h+ . Nice seeing you here! From a quick look at your contributions, it seems like you usually don't leave a warning when reverting vandalism nor an semi-automated edit summary. It's very easy to do with tools like WP:Twinkle. Could you start warning editors? —Femke 🐦 (talk) 12:46, 18 May 2024 (UTC)

I've been editing Wikipedia since 2004 and have been mainly working on articles about New Zealand, musical instruments, and wine. I've helped build several articles up to GA (cimbasso, serpent, contrabass trombone, soprano trombone) and reviewed several others. It would be good to be able to approve pending useful contributions to protected articles; the current article that prompted this request is the trombone article, which I'd also like to work on. User:Demetrios1993

I have been editing the English Wikipedia for about five years now, and have made approximately 7,300 edits. I am an active user, and currently monitor around 1400 pages. I also have a good understanding of the relevant policies and the guideline on reviewing; per the criteria to receive this permission. Demetrios1993 (talk) 02:18, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

User:KingEdinburgh

Reverting vandalism on articles, especially on military bios. KingEdinburgh (talk) 05:42, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Not done You don't need rollback to undo inappropriate edits. If you're still interested in this tool then please spend at least a month actively patrolling RecentChanges (Twinkle & Ultraviolet can help with that) before reapplying. Also, please ensure that you are consistently warning editors when you revert their edits. Thanks, Fastily 06:11, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

I'm applying for rollback rights in order to help with my current recent changes patrolling. With rollback rights, I will gain access to more advanced counter-vandalism tools like AntiVandal and Huggle. I have been patrolling for about a month and made plenty of AIV reports (all of which were successful). BerryForPerpetuity (talk) 12:38, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
